Edgar – 5yrs – Male

Edgar has had a somewhat unusual journey after finding himself back in our care. Originally living as a long term stray, he arrived with a neck wound which has since healed, and he now has a clean bill of health. During his first stay with us, Edgar showed very little interest in people and was therefore rehomed as an outdoor barn cat. However, it soon became clear that he had other ideas and much preferred seeking out human companionship, leading to his return.

Since coming back, Edgar has taken time to settle and still appreciates having plenty of hiding places where he can feel safe. While he doesn’t actively seek attention straight away, he is much more affectionate than first impressions suggest. With a little patience and a few tasty treats, Edgar will happily enjoy fuss, lean into your hands and has even been known to roll onto his side and dribble when content. He can initially be wary of unfamiliar people, but quickly warms up to those who allow him to build trust at his own pace.

Edgar can be sensitive to sudden movements and may become unsure when offered affection, occasionally giving a gentle nip to communicate that he has had enough. He is not currently comfortable with grooming brushes and does not enjoy handling or restraint, although he will tolerate necessary care when required. We believe these are areas that may continue to improve as his confidence grows.

Although Edgar has never shown much interest in toys, he clearly enjoys enrichment and can often be found rearranging his forage box overnight. We anticipate that Edgar will spend much of his time outdoors, but his previous home showed us that he enjoys human companionship and will seek out fuss and affection once settled. Edgar could live with older secondary school aged children who understand his need for space and boundaries, but is looking for a home with no other animals.
